A taekwondo instructor drowned after rescuing two of his students who fell into the Hongcheon River in Gangwon Province on Saturday.
According to Hongcheon police, three teenage students swimming in the river were suddenly carried downstream. Their instructor, surnamed Kim, 34, immediately jumped in and rescued two of the students.
He drowned while trying to rescue the third student. People at the scene found Kim’s body quickly, but the third student was still missing when a rescue team arrived.
After a two-hour search, the team found the student’s body more than 10 meters away.
Police said the rescued students were unharmed.
